Science-themed documentary screening of Particle Fever with a presentation and Q&A from UT scientist Peter Onyisi.
Reel Science: Particle Fever comes to the Rollins Studio Theatre on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The Long Center is presenting the screening in partnership with the UT College of Natural Sciences, and the main feature is Particle Fever, the documentary that follows the first run of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. If you've ever wondered how the world's biggest machine actually works—or what it's like for the people who spend their lives trying to find a single particle—this is the one to see.
It's not just a screening, though. UT scientist Peter Onyisi will be there to give a presentation and lead a Q&A after the film. Having someone from the field in the room changes the whole thing; you can ask the kinds of questions that usually just sit in the back of your head while you're watching, and get an answer from someone who actually knows the science. It turns a movie night into something more like a conversation.
The venue is the Debra and Kevin Rollins Studio Theatre at 701 W. Riverside Dr, a flexible black box space that the Long Center usually keeps open for local and regional artists and community arts groups. Because it's a black box, it can be adapted to fit the specific needs of a performance, which makes it a good spot for a screening and a talk like this. It's right there on West Riverside, so it's easy to get to from most parts of town.
