Read for Democracy Book Club - August Meeting

HOCTX is hosting the August meeting of the Read for Democracy Book Club on Sunday, August 30, at the Austin Public Library Spicewood Springs Branch. It's a community discussion that doubles as a gathering for activists and organizers, so it's as much about the people in the room as it is about whatever book is on the table.

If you haven't come across it before, the club is run by Hands Off Central Texas, and the sessions are built around bringing together campaigners and organizers. The conversation usually starts with the month's chosen book, but it doesn't stop there. The meeting is also a place to meet other people working on similar causes, hear about upcoming HOCTX events, and connect with others who care about the city, the country, and what comes next. It's a low-pressure way to get plugged into the local scene if you've been looking for a starting point.

All ages are welcome, so you don't have to be a seasoned organizer to show up. The organizers encourage anyone coming along to borrow that month's chosen book from their local library before the meeting, which keeps the whole thing accessible—no need to buy a new copy just to join the conversation.

The meeting runs from 1 PM to 3 PM in Room 1 of the Spicewood Springs branch, at 8637 Spicewood Springs Rd. It's free to attend.
