Rayland Baxter

Rayland Baxter plays Mohawk on Friday, February 26, 2027, as part of the North American tour for his new album, True Violet. He's a bluesy alt-country singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee, and this is his first Austin date since his last record, If I Were A Butterfly, came out in 2022.

True Violet is a bit of a departure from how he's worked before. He wrote it alone with a guitar, drawing on movies like Dances With Wolves and The Sandlot as inspiration. It's also the first record he made without his father, Bucky Baxter—the multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with Bob Dylan and as a member of Steve Earle and The Dukes. Bucky's musicianship had shaped every previous chapter of Rayland's career, so this is the first time he's stepped out on his own. In the wake of that loss, his sister became an essential presence in both his life and his creative process.

That family connection runs deep through his work, and True Violet arrives four years after If I Were A Butterfly, so there's a fair amount of ground to cover between the two. The Austin show is one stop on the North American tour supporting the new material, and it's the only act on the bill.

It's a single-artist night at Mohawk, 912 Red River St, with the show starting at 8 PM CST on Friday, February 26.
