Rachel Loy plays Hole in the Wall on Wednesday, August 12, with Caroline Sears and Devin Hopwood opening. It's part of the venue's Free Songwriter's Happy Hour, so you'll get three songwriters on one bill rather than just one name on the marquee. Loy takes the main slot, with Sears and Hopwood setting the stage before her.
If you haven't spent much time there, Hole in the Wall is one of Austin's oldest rooms. It opened in 1974 in the campus area and spent its early years as a folkie hangout and a stage for Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and Blaze Foley. Over the decades it shifted toward punk, cosmic country and alternative, and it's a place that launched the careers of Timbuk3, Fastball, Spoon and Shakey Graves. It's a two-stage room that holds a couple hundred people and still books live music every night. It shuttered briefly in 2002 and came close to being priced out in 2015, but it's still standing.

The show starts at 6 PM, and since it's a happy hour bill, it's an early one. There's no cover, though it is 21+. With three songwriters on the bill, you'll get a full evening of music starting in the late afternoon, and you can catch all three without paying for a ticket. It's at 2538 Guadalupe St, right in the campus area.
