Teams of two to four race to assemble 300-piece jigsaw puzzles in a cozy fall puzzle race with a swap portion.
Puzzlepalooza: Speed Puzzling Competition & Swap takes over the Cepeda Branch Library on Friday, October 2, for a night that pairs a timed race with a community puzzle trade. The library bills it as a "cozy fall puzzle race," though the cozy part might wear off once the clock starts: teams of two to four compete to assemble identical 300-piece jigsaw puzzles, with the fastest time taking the day. It's a head-to-head sprint where every second counts, and since everyone is working on the same puzzle, there's no luck of the draw—just who can slot those pieces together the quickest.
Beyond the competition, the evening has a social side. Attendees are encouraged to bring a puzzle to trade in the swap portion of the night, so you can walk in with a puzzle you've already finished and walk out with something new to tackle at home. It turns the whole thing into a bit of a community gathering rather than just a contest, with the trading going on alongside the racing.
Kat McNevins sums up the spirit of the night with a simple line: "Every day I'm puzzlin'!"

If you're planning to compete, keep in mind how the spots are filled: tickets are handed out to the first people in line starting half an hour before the competition begins, so arriving early is the only way to secure a place. The Cepeda Branch Library is at 651 N. Pleasant Valley in Austin's Lower East side.
