A resource fair for older adults with information booths on healthy aging, diabetes, cognition, and a community showcase, hosted by the Austin Public Library.
Preparing for the Journey: Older Adult Resource Fair & Community Showcase is coming to the Spicewood Springs Branch Library on Sunday, August 23, from 1 PM to 4 PM. It's a resource fair put together by the Austin Public Library, and the whole afternoon is built around the idea that aging is a journey best taken with knowledge and support. If you're an older adult in Austin—or if you're helping a parent or grandparent navigate their options—it's a good place to get a lot of different answers in one go.
More than a dozen of the city's best resources on healthy aging will be gathered under one roof. You'll find information booths and activities covering diabetes, improving cognition, brain games, breathing, and posture. It's not just brochures to take home, either; there are activities to actually do while you're there. Austin Resource Recovery will be hosting a booth as part of the mix, so you can talk to them about their services alongside the health-focused tables.
Running alongside the resource fair is a showcase of the library's own programs for older adults. If you haven't spent much time at the library lately, this is a chance to see what they're doing for the older community beyond just checking out books. Between the health resources and the library's own offerings, there's a fair amount to look through in a single afternoon.
