The improv comedy troupe Pistol Besmo presents a comedy show inspired by Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk.
Pistol Besmo takes the stage at ColdTowne Theater on Friday, July 31, with a show they've titled Dunkirk. It's an improv comedy night inspired by Christopher Nolan's 2017 war film, and it's the kind of thing that only really makes sense when you're in the room. The troupe is known for taking a specific prompt and running with it, and this time the starting point is a movie about an evacuation under fire.
They're not coming out alone, either. Post Sauna Clarity opens the night, so you'll get two different improv acts for the price of one. If you've seen Pistol Besmo before, you know they don't exactly play it straight. They describe Dunkirk as "like Dunkirk but without the sex or the city," which is a bit of a joke in itself—since there wasn't any sex or city in the movie to begin with. It's a good hint at the kind of humor they're bringing to the stage: a little bit off-kilter and not too concerned with playing it safe.
They also invite the audience to prepare for "the mysterious world that is Pistol Besmo," which is about as much of a spoiler as you're going to get. The whole thing is built on the fly, so the night will go wherever the room takes it.

ColdTowne Theater has been Austin's home for alternative comedy since 2006, and it's where they run their improv, sketch, and stand-up classes alongside the shows. The performance is on the ColdTowne Main Stage, starting at 10 PM. Tickets are $10 general admission plus a $1.96 service fee, for $11.96 total, and parking is free.
