Independent film screening of 'Patron Saint of Roadkill' with a post-show Q&A with director Arin Spence and director of photography Kierin Padilla, part of the Discovery Zone Roadshow series.
Hyperreal Film Club is screening Patron Saint of Roadkill on Monday, September 7, at 301 Chicon Street. It's a shoestring-budget indie made right here in Texas, and after the film, director Arin Spence and director of photography Kierin Padilla will stay for a Q&A to talk through it.
The movie follows Andy, an oddball whose bogus job search finally ends when he's hired by a mysterious company to give funerals to roadkill. Reviewers have called it equal parts funny, sad, surreal, and scaryβa slow-paced, artful meditation on roadkill and the job market with a great soundtrack, and a relatable journey through a world built primarily for cars. It's the kind of premise that sounds like a joke until you're actually watching it play out.
The screening is part of Hyperreal Film Club's Cinema for the People pop-up series. The club is run by an Austin collective that specializes in immersive movie-watching experiences in unusual environments and in amplifying local artists, so this fits right into what they do. It's also part of their Discovery Zone Roadshow series.
