Passage

Bottle Alley Theatre is bringing Passage to RICHESART GALLERY this summer, with shows running from July 17 through August 1. It's a radio play, which means the story lives in the sound rather than on a traditional stage, and the production is free to attend.

The play was written collaboratively back in 2020 by a group of Austin-based theatre artists. The story follows the nine crew members of the Aquarius 300, a ship searching for a new planet to terraform. Along the way, the ship is pulled into the gravitational forces of a black hole, and the crew is forced to confront questions of love, loss, and faith. From there, the characters find themselves drawn into far-away places, with intimate and truthful conversations on human connection and endurance. It's a sci-fi premise that spends more time on the people inside the ship than on the space outside it.

That same collaborative spirit carries through to the credits. The original co-writers, co-devisers, and performers are Will Gibson Douglas, Brooke Eden, Rosalind Faires, Franny Harold, Marian Kansas, Katy Matz, Ronan Melomo, N.R. Oglesby, and Brennan Patrick. All nine are listed as both creators and performers, so the crew on the Aquarius 300 is mirrored by the group that put the piece together.

RICHESART GALLERY is at 2511 E 6th St Unit A, in the heart of Austin. Beyond the gallery, the space hosts interactive watercolor and figure drawing classes, art events, and a custom clothing boutique. Passage runs July 17 through August 1, with shows at 8 PM. Admission is free.
