Americana and country concert by Paige Plaisance at Waterloo Records & Video.
Paige Plaisance plays Waterloo Records & Video on Thursday, October 15, at 5:30 PM. It's a single-bill night, so she's the only one on the program.
If you haven't come across her yet, Plaisance is an Austin-based singer-songwriter who works in Americana and country. She's coined her own name for the sound: 'Swampytonkin'. It's a word that points to where she comes from—she grew up on a farm near the muddy banks of the Mississippi in Waterproof, Louisiana—and where she is now, playing the honkytonks of Austin.
That Louisiana background is a good place to start. She spent her early years in Waterproof, and it was there that she focused on the piano, honing her skills so she could eventually play her own original music. When she moved to Austin, she brought that piano playing into the honkytonk circuit, and she's been carving out her own lane ever since. The 'Swampytonkin' label is her way of describing how those two worlds—the muddy Mississippi and the Austin dance halls—sit together in her songs.
