Exhibition featuring paintings by Laura Goodson and photographs by Steve Wrubel exploring the spirit of the American West.
Laura Rathe Fine Art is bringing together Texas painter Laura Goodson and photographer Steve Wrubel for OUTLAWS, the gallery's first show to pair the two. It opens Thursday, October 8, and runs through November 5, with a reception that evening from 6 to 9 PM.
Both artists work around a shared fascination with the American West and the independent spirits that define it—cowboys, rodeo riders, renegades, and adrenaline seekers. Goodson is based in Camp Wood, Texas, and draws on the people, stories, and landscapes of the modern West. Her paintings have traditionally been black and white, but this work moves into color: the rich hues of sunset-lit prairies and the earthy tones of rock-filled canyons.
Wrubel has spent more than three decades traveling the world and has spent a good part of that time deeply connected to the American West. He's covered tens of thousands of miles through ranch country and rodeo towns, capturing split-second moments of movement and emotion. Together, the painting and photography look at the adventure, independence, and resilience that have long shaped the Western experience, presenting a West that's both rugged and romantic.
