Screening of Terry Chiu's independent sci-fi film Open Doom Crescendo, introduced by Austin filmmaker Carl Fry, with a short film by Fry and Maxwell Nalevansky.
We Luv Video screens Terry Chiu's Open Doom Crescendo on Sunday, September 27, at 6 PM. It's a Canadian-made independent sci-fi epic that runs three hours, so you'll want to settle in for the long haul. The story follows vagabonds searching for the Embodiment of Angst across a dystopian landscape.
Before the main feature, Austin filmmaker Carl Fry introduces the film. He's also part of the opening act: the satirical short I Killed Osama!?, which he made with Maxwell Nalevansky, plays first. Between the short and the three-hour feature, you're looking at a full evening of cinema.
Open Doom Crescendo came out in 2022, and it's a rare find for a screen hereβa Canadian indie sci-fi with a runtime that puts it in a class of its own. IMDb's only review calls it "The End of Evangelion in corporeal form," which should give you a sense of the kind of territory it covers. If you're into long-form sci-fi and don't mind a movie that takes its time, this is one of those screenings that's hard to find elsewhere.
