Olé ELO, an Electric Light Orchestra tribute band, performs with Discotex, an ABBA tribute act, at the 29th Street Ballroom.
Olé ELO and Discotex are sharing the bill at 29th Street Ballroom on Sunday, October 11, for a double tribute to two of the biggest pop sounds of the seventies. Olé ELO does the Electric Light Orchestra side of things, and Discotex takes on ABBA. If you've spent any time with either catalog, you know they both lean on big melodies, lush arrangements, and the kind of hooks that stick long after the song is over.
Having them on the same bill puts those two sounds side by side in one room. ELO brought a symphonic, spacey approach to pop, while ABBA built their sound on tight harmonies and dancefloor-ready production. They come from different corners of the map, but they both occupied that same territory of high-production pop that worked just as well on a record player as it did in a live setting.
It's a double bill, so you're getting two full sets in one night. Olé ELO handles the ELO material, and Discotex handles the ABBA material, meaning the evening is split between the two. If you're a fan of one and only curious about the other, it's a good way to catch both without having to pick a side.
