Noon Tunes Summer Midday Series

KMFA 89.5 is running a summer series called Noon Tunes, and the next session is Tuesday, July 28, at their studio on 41 Navasota St. in Lower East Austin. It's part of their Kids on Key summer program, which the station has built around introducing younger listeners to classical music. The whole thing is hosted by Guillermo Delgado, who you might recognize from Saturday Matinee and KMFA by Request.

Each session pairs a selection of classical repertoire with Looney Tunes cartoons. The idea is that these iconic works get a zany boost from Bugs and company: Liszt shows up in Rhapsody Rabbit, and Rossini in Rabbit of Seville. It's a way to hear the music and see it play out on screen at the same time, and since the cartoons are so familiar, it's an easy entry point for kids—and adults—who might not usually seek out a classical program.

Families are welcome, and there's more to it than just the screening. There are free snacks, cookies, and activities before the cartoons start, and a sing-along with Cover to Cover afterward. It's set up as a full afternoon rather than just a quick viewing, so you can arrive early and hang out before the music kicks in.

The series runs on Tuesday, July 28 and Tuesday, August 11, both at KMFA 89.5, 41 Navasota St. Admission is free.
