Night at the Museum

Night at the Museum kicks off at the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural, and Genealogy Center on Thursday, September 24, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. It's the start of a new community series at the Carver: a monthly Thursday-evening collaboration between the museum and a Black community organization, built around culture, fellowship, visibility and relationship-building. Each night opens the museum to visitors and pairs a light reception with a live performance by a Black artist.

This first one is presented by The HBCU Collective and the Carver, with DJ JO on the decks. The theme for the evening is HBCU Made - Timeless vibes, so the music and the mood will lean into the legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The whole point of the series is to bring people together in the museum, and this one puts the HBCU experience front and center.

If you can't make this one, the series keeps going. It runs monthly on Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, starting July 30, 2026, and continuing through November 18, 2027. Each month will feature a different Black community organization and a different guest artist, so the vibe will shift from one night to the next.

For the kickoff on September 24, the museum is at 1165 Angelina Street in Austin, and entry is free to guests. It runs from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with a light reception and a live performance as part of the evening.
