Poetry reading of The Poetry of Poo by Nicholas Solis at BookPeople, followed by a book signing.
Nicholas Solis is reading from his new book, The Poetry of Poo: And Other Fairly Gross Things No One Ever Seems to Write About, at BookPeople on Sunday, September 6, at 2 PM. It's a collection of poetry and illustrations aimed at young readers, and the whole point is to introduce them to different forms of poetry and encourage them to write their own. The title gives away the subject matter—the kind of gross stuff kids love—but the goal is to get them thinking about poetry as something they can actually do themselves.
Solis is an elementary school teacher who's been honing his jokes in the classroom for more than twenty-five years, and he's been writing poetry since he was eight. He says the book spans the last twenty years of that work, so it's a good chunk of his life gathered into one volume. He lives here in Austin with his wife Morgan, their boys Leo and Milo, and their dog Charlie.

The reading runs about 45 to 60 minutes, and there's a signing line afterward. To get a book signed, you'll need to buy a copy of the event book or an item of equal value from BookPeople. Seating is first-come, first-served and not guaranteed, and there's no livestream or recording of the session, so you'll have to be there in person to catch it. The event is free and open to the public at BookPeople, 603 North Lamar Boulevard, on the second floor.
