A neighbourhood Halloween event with a haunted house, vendors, games, a costume contest and prizes; free entry.
Neighborhood Fright Night is coming to Metz Park and Rudy Mendez Rec Center on Thursday, October 29, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's a free, family-friendly Halloween event in Austin, and the main draw is the haunted house they set up for the night.
Beyond the haunted house, there's a fair-like atmosphere going on. Local vendors will be there with things to browse, and there are games to play, so it's more of a full evening than just a single walk-through. They're also holding a costume contest, and there are prizes for the winners, which gives you a reason to actually put effort into your outfit instead of just throwing on a sheet. If you're bringing kids, it's the kind of night where they can run around and do a few different things in one spot.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Austin and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's all happening at 2407 Canterbury Street, right at Metz Park and the Rudy Mendez Rec Center. The whole thing is free to enter, and it runs for two hours, from 6 PM to 8 PM, so you can drop in whenever works for your schedule. If you're looking for a low-key way to get into the Halloween spirit without spending a fortune, this is a solid bet.
