A four-week adult workshop exploring the foundations of Broadway-style jazz musical theater, focusing on expressive movement and dynamic choreography.
Ballet Austin is bringing a four-week musical theater workshop to the Dell Jewish Community Center this summer, starting Monday, July 27. It's an adult class that runs every Monday through August 17, from 7:30 to 8:30 PM, so you'll be back home by 9:00 on a school night.
The whole thing is built around the foundations of Broadway-style jazz. That means a focus on expressive movement, stylized technique, and dynamic choreography inspired by the stage—the kind of high-energy, character-driven dancing you see in a professional production rather than a studio exercise. It's pitched at beginners and dancers returning to class, and it puts as much weight on building confidence, musicality, and performance quality as it does on the combinations themselves. So, if you've been out of a dance studio for years, this is designed for you to step back in without feeling like you've missed too much.

One thing to keep in mind: while it's an adult workshop, it's open to teens 14 and over, so you'll likely be dancing alongside a mix of ages. The sessions are held at Ballet Austin's dance studio inside the Dell Jewish Community Center, at 7300 Hart Lane in Austin, TX 78731. The cost is $117 for the full four weeks, and JCC members get 20% off that rate. Since it's a multi-week course, you're signing up for the whole run—Mondays from July 27 to August 17, 7:30 to 8:30 PM.
