BookPeople presents MrBallen for his live storytelling event The Terror Within, celebrating the release of his graphic novel.
MrBallen is coming to BookPeople on Monday, October 12, for a ticketed event celebrating his new graphic novel, The Terror Within: The Graphic Stories. If you've spent any time on YouTube or podcasts, you probably know him as the storyteller who specializes in the strange, dark, and mysterious. This is his first time bringing that world to a bookstore in Austin.
The Terror Within collects nine stories based on real events, and four of them are all-new tales he's never shared before. The book is a graphic novel, so these are stories told through art rather than just text. It's a good way to see his storytelling style translated into a different medium, especially if you're already a fan of the podcast.
For those who aren't familiar with the man behind the name, MrBallen is John B. Allen, a former U.S. Navy SEAL who has built Ballen Studios into a multi-platform content company with more than 29 million followers. He's also a New York Times bestselling author. Beyond the storytelling, he founded the MrBallen Foundation, which has granted more than $2 million to honor victims and support families impacted by violent crime.

There are a few practical things to keep in mind before you buy. This isn't a speaking engagement—there's no stage show or storytelling performance. Instead, your ticket includes a pre-signed copy of the book and a photo with MrBallen. Because the photo is for ticket holders only, you'll want to get there on time; check-in starts at 5:30 PM, and the event kicks off at 6 PM on the third floor of BookPeople, 603 North Lamar Boulevard. They've noted that late arrivals might miss their chance to meet him, so don't cut it too close.
