Mothra vs. Godzilla

Mothra vs. Godzilla is playing at Alamo Drafthouse Village on Sunday, August 30, and it's part of a wider run across the city. The movie is the 1964 Toho Studios classic, directed by Ishirō Honda. It came out a couple of years after Godzilla's 1962 scrap with King Kong, and Toho tapped Mothra—the only kaiju with real heroic traits—to step in as Godzilla's new adversary. It's known for some of the most memorable action sequences in the genre, and it doubles down on the series' underlying message about the terror of nuclear destruction and humanity's role in its own potential ruin.

While the Village is the focus here, the screenings are running at several Alamo Drafthouse locations across Austin. The Village is at 2700 W. Anderson #701 in Midtown, and it's the longest continuously operated Drafthouse in the city, having opened in 2001 before the neighborhood became trendy. It's a four-screen cinema that specializes in first-run features with Sony 4K digital projection and 35mm screenings, and it houses much of the American Genre Film Archive on-site. A recent revamp added new padded chairs, shared tables for food and drink, and a new outdoor patio. It's also been a Readers Poll 'Best Movie Theatre' in Austin every year from 2001 through 2025.

F, Austin North), Alamo Drafthouse Mueller (1911 Aldrich #120, Austin East), and Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane (5701 W. Slaughter, Austin South). The run goes from August 30 through September 3, with showtimes on Sunday at 4 PM and 7 PM, Monday at 10:20 PM, Tuesday at 4:20 PM, and Wednesday at 10:20 PM. Tickets are $10 to $25.
