Concert featuring Monte Montgomery, a renowned acoustic guitar player, with special guest Marina Rocks at The 04 Center.
Monte Montgomery plays The 04 Center on Friday, August 28, with Marina Rocks opening. Montgomery has been a fixture of the Austin scene for decades, and this is a straight-ahead guitar night in the South Lamar neighborhood.
Montgomery's story is a Texas one: born in Birmingham, Alabama, he moved to the Hill Country at age 12 and picked up the guitar in 1979. He really broke through in 1999 after appearing on Austin City Limits, and since then he's become one of the city's most recognized acoustic players. Guitar Player magazine named him one of the Top 50 All-Time Greatest Guitar Players, and he took home the Austin Chronicle's Best Acoustic Guitar Player award seven years running. He's released 12 CDs since 1993 and wrote music for the FOX series Last Man Standing. He also has a couple of signature pieces of gear: the MM200 acoustic amp with AER and the MMY1 signature guitar with Alvarez.
Marina Rocks is an Austin native who spent a decade leading the Houston power trio The Guppies from 2005 to 2015, and she's shared stages with Aerosmith and Joe Satriani. Her recent work includes the 2023 album Austin to Houston, the EP Texcentric, and the LP S.O.S. TEXAS, which she describes as a mix of Texas boogie, Americana, country-rock, world-beat, and bluegrass. Between her and Montgomery, the night covers a lot of ground within the Texas guitar tradition.
