Austin-based psychedelic cumbia band Money Chicha performing live at Rock the Park.
Money Chicha are playing Mueller Lake Park on Friday, September 25, as part of Rock the Park, presented by Money Chicha and KUTX. It's an outdoor show in the Mueller neighborhood, and the band is the main feature of the evening.
If you're not familiar with them, Money Chicha is an Austin-based psychedelic cumbia band. That description tells you most of what you need to know: they take the traditional rhythms of cumbia and run them through a psychedelic filter, mixing danceable Latin beats with the kind of swirling, trippy textures you'd expect from a psych band. It's a sound that works just as well for dancing as it does for just hanging out and listening, which makes it a natural fit for an outdoor park setting.
Because they're an Austin band, this is a hometown show. They've built their name here in the city, and Rock the Park brings them to a public space rather than a club, so it's a good chance to catch them in a more open environment. KUTX is co-presenting, so it's part of the local radio station's run of live music around town.
