Milo Hehmsoth leads his quartet at Monks Jazz Club on Wednesday, July 29, as part of the Midweek @ Monks series. It's a live-taping listening-room concert, which means the whole set is being recorded and the room is kept quiet—there's a whisper policy in place, so this is a night for sitting and listening rather than chatting over the music.
The set mixes American songbook standards with Hehmsoth's own writing, so you'll hear the familiar territory of the jazz canon alongside his original compositions and interpretations. Hehmsoth is a pianist, composer, and educator based here in Austin, and he's shared the stage with local mainstays Scott McIntosh, Andre Hayward, and Autumn Henderson. He also holds residencies with Jacob Wise's Tuesday Jazz Jam, Dr. James Polk's Centerpeace, and Terrance McDaniel's 'The Blacklist'.
On this date, he's joined by Bruce Saunders on guitar, Billy Satterwhite on bass, and Josh Alderete on drums. The Austin Jazz Society is collaborating with Monks Jazz Club on the booking, though tickets are sold through the venue.
