Summer Break Theatre brings Midnight! to Stage Austin starting August 6, the Texas premiere of David Epstein's farce. It's a fast-moving comedy set in a grand suite at the Ritz-Carlton in 1950s New York, where a fading Hollywood director's high-stakes meeting spirals into chaos. The plot strands a self-taught Bronx writer hiding in the bar cabinet alongside a debt due at midnight and an ensemble of zany characters, and the show is billed as deliciously unpredictable. It played successfully in New York City before this staging.
Summer Break Theatre is the company behind it, and they work to engage the under-resourced Austin area by inviting teachers to participate in or watch their plays for free. This production is directed by Rene Fulton, and the cast includes Jordan T. Maxwell, Taylor Flanagan, Beau Paul, Matrex Kilgore, Mark Gerchak, Brian Hensley, Anna Becker, David Lampe, Rick Felkins, Hunter Houseton, and Ansh Tripathi.
