Live dancehall music performance by Michael Monroe Goodman at the historic Broken Spoke venue.
Michael Monroe Goodman plays the Broken Spoke on Wednesday, September 2, starting at 9 PM. It's a dancehall set, so the music is meant for the floor, not just for listening from a table. If you're coming early, Manny Velazquez plays in the restaurant from 6 to 8 PM, which gives you a few hours to eat and settle in before the main set kicks off.
For those who haven't spent much time there, the Broken Spoke is a Texas dancehall that's been around since 1964, when it was opened by James M. White. It's known as the 'Last of the True Texas Dancehalls,' and it still operates like one: homestyle meals, including its famous chicken fried steak, and live country music Tuesday through Saturday. They also run two-step dance lessons led by instructor Terri White from Wednesday to Saturday, 8 to 9 PM, so if you're not yet comfortable on the floor, you can get a lesson in right before the music starts.
Goodman's appearance on September 2 is part of a long run of Wednesday nights. He's been playing the Spoke since August 5, and he's scheduled to return on August 12, 19, and 26, and then again on September 9, 16, 23, 30, and October 7. If you miss this one, there are plenty more dates to choose from over the next couple of months.
