An evening of dance bringing together diverse choreographic voices at the Dougherty Arts Center, opening Metamorphosis Dance's 2026-2027 season.
Metamorphosis Dance opens its 2026-2027 season with Mosaic: A Choreography Collective, running from Thursday, October 15, through Saturday, October 17, at the Dougherty Arts Center. It's a three-night run, and every performance starts at 7:30 PM.
The title gives you the best idea of how the evening works. Instead of one long piece, the show is a collection of shorter works brought together under one roof. Metamorphosis invited a mix of experienced choreographers and emerging student artists to present their own pieces, each with its own movement style and artistic vision. The company describes it like a mosaic: a bunch of individual pieces that, when put together, make a richer, more complete whole. Because it pulls from different voices—some established, some just starting out—you'll see a range of styles in a single night rather than one single approach.
Beyond the stage, there's some local context worth knowing. The show is presented as part of the Artist Access Program, through the City of Austin's Arts, Culture, Music, and Entertainment Department and the Dougherty Arts Center, and it's supported in part by an Elevate Grant from Austin Arts, Culture, Music, & Entertainment. It's the first performance of the company's new season, so it's a good place to catch them as they get things moving for the year.
