Live performance by country and folk singer-songwriter Melissa Carper at the 7th Annual Pride in Local Music showcase, part of the Big Queer Weekend.
Melissa Carper plays Drinks Backyard on Saturday, September 26, as part of a showcase that brings together several local names in one night. The country and folk singer-songwriter headlines the bill, with Maru Haru, Painterly, and Steph Cash also performing. Maxine LaQueene & Friends host the evening.
The show is the 7th Annual Pride in Local Music, presented by the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce. It's one of the events making up the Big Queer Weekend, a four-day celebration of queer creativity run in partnership with aGLIFF and SXSW. Over those four days, the weekend turns Austin into a destination for LGBTQ+ film, music, visual arts and community, with six acclaimed feature films, red carpets, filmmaker Q&As, drag performances and a Queer Artist & Artisan Marketplace.
Two of the organizations behind it have deep roots in the city. aGLIFF, founded in 1987, is Austin's longest-running film festival and became a 501(c)(3) in 1995. The Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1997, is the state's oldest LGBTQ+ chamber. This showcase is their annual contribution to the local music scene, and this year it's part of a larger citywide program.

Carper's set is the main feature of the night, and the other three acts—Maru Haru, Painterly and Steph Cash—fill out the rest of the bill. The show runs from 6 PM to 10 PM at Drinks Backyard, in the 78701 zip code downtown, and it's free and open to the public.
