Book signing and conversation with author Meg Mason for her novel 'Sophie, Standing There', moderated by Kristen Arnett at BookPeople.
Meg Mason is coming to BookPeople on Friday, October 23, for a conversation about her new novel, Sophie, Standing There. It's a book about heartbreak and the long, slow move from isolation back toward love, and the event is built around that: Mason in conversation with fellow writer Kristen Arnett.
If you haven't come across Mason's work yet, Sophie, Standing There is her second novel. Her first, Sorrow and Bliss, became an international bestseller, won British Book Industry Book of the Year, and made the shortlist for the Women's Prize. It's been translated into more than 30 languages, so she's arriving with a fair bit of momentum behind her. Before she turned to novels, she spent years in journalism, starting at the Times of London and writing for Vogue, Elle, GQ, Sunday Style, and The New Yorker. Born in New Zealand, she now lives in Sydney.
Leading the conversation is Kristen Arnett, a queer Floridian author whose own novels include the New York Times bestseller Mostly Dead Things, With Teeth, and STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE. She was awarded the 2026 Jim Duggins Outstanding Mid-Career Novelist Prize and serves as the Florida Chair for Authors Against Book Bans. Having another writer across from her should keep the discussion focused on the craft and the writing itself.

The event is free and open to the public, held on the second floor of BookPeople at 603 North Lamar Boulevard. It starts at 7 PM and runs for about 45 to 60 minutes. It was originally scheduled for September 13 but was moved to October 23, and there won't be a live stream or recording available, so if you want to hear it, you'll have to be there in person.
