Meet the Artist: Anna Ganina

Anna Ganina is the featured artist at Austin Art Garage on Thursday, September 24, from 6 PM to 9 PM. The evening is part of the gallery's 'Meet the Artist' series, which pairs an editorial Q&A with a Happy Hour, so you'll get to hear from her in person while you look around.

Ganina is a visual artist from Ukraine who moved to Austin and found a fascination with the American West that now drives her work. Her painting leans on bold color, graphic shapes, and dramatic light and shadow, with compositions that feel intentional. She works both on canvas and in murals, with some pieces reaching up to 30 by 190 feet. These days she's experimenting with resin to get a glossy, lacquered surface on her work.

Her imagery runs in two main directions. There are the iconic color-blocked portraits that play with the lens of memory, and then there are the nostalgic Americana scenes—diners, trailers, old cars, motels, pools, and signs set against a southwestern landscape, all reshaped through exaggerated light. She's also a mother; she says her older son Adrian's dedication to soccer taught her persistence, discipline, and a belief in what consistent effort can do.
