Meet Marcus Delzell

Marcus Delzell is taking over Unchained.Art Contemporary Gallery on Sunday, September 6, from 12 PM to 4 PM. It's the first installment of the gallery's new 'Austin Artist of the Month' program, which brings one local artist into the space each month for a dedicated wall exhibition and a hands-on first Sunday. Delzell is the program's first Austin Artist of the Month, and he'll be there in person during those opening hours to present the work.

Delzell is a multidisciplinary artist who works across oil painting, drawing, video and theatre. His compositions look at identity, perception and the tension between authenticity and performance, and he draws on Greek mythology and the metaphor of the mask to examine the human psyche and the narratives we impose on ourselves and others. The exhibition includes several paper-based drawings being shown publicly for the first time.

Unchained.Art is an Austin-based contemporary fine art gallery that showcases emerging and established artists across painting, sculpture, photography and tech-art. The 'Austin Artist of the Month' series is their new monthly program, and this is the first one. The work stays on view through October 3, so if you can't make the opening, you've still got a few weeks to catch it.

The opening is free and open to all, and drop-ins are welcome, so you can just wander in whenever you're around on Sunday afternoon. The gallery is in Austin, and the work remains on view through October 3.
