Meagan Tubb & Shady People play The Saxon Pub on Tuesday, August 4, from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM. They describe their sound as a mix of classic rock, blues, soul, gospel, Americana, and funk, and they write songs from the perspectives of inanimate objects, creatures, and Tubb's own journey into marriage, motherhood, and faith.
It's a long-running project. Over the last 19 years, the band has won a battle of the bands competition, opened for Willie Nelson twice, and earned guitar sponsorships from Dean and Luna Guitars. Their song "Let Me Believe" won an Independent Music Award for Best Song in the Blues. In 2011, they released Cast Your Shadow, produced by Stephen Doster, which drew rave reviews. Another track, "An Argument with the Moon," landed on the soundtrack of the independent film Distances, which premiered at the 2012 SXSW film festival.
More recently, their 2021 album Signs and Wonders became a regular on KUT's Lone Star State of Mind. They played the Wildflower Music Festival in 2021 and have returned to the Lewisville Western Days Festival three years running, in 2023, 2024, and 2025. In 2025, Tubb announced a new gospel-themed album.
