Concert by Matt Tedder, a Texas-born singer-songwriter rooted in blues and country, performing at The Victorian.
Matt Tedder plays The Victorian on Wednesday, September 30, at 7:30 PM. He's a Texas-born singer-songwriter rooted in the blues, classic country, and the resurgence of two-step and dancehall, and he's become a regular part of Austin's country dance scene.
Tedder grew up just outside Fort Worth, where he spent his early years playing along to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddie King, and Lightnin' Hopkins before moving to Nashville at 17. When he returned to Texas, he discovered the state's classic country dancehall culture and joined the house band at a Fort Worth saloon, where he learned more than a hundred songs by artists like Ray Price, Johnny Bush, and Bob Wills. His 2023 album, I Can Dream You, drew on that deepening country inspiration, shaped by his father, who died in 2021 and had introduced him to Leon Russell, JJ Cale, Lefty Frizell, and George Jones.
