Matt Kirk and The Gueyfarers bring their Texicana blend of Americana, blues, folk, rock and country to The Continental Club.
Matt Kirk and The GĂĽeyfarers play The Continental Club on Tuesday, July 21. They're a New Braunfels band led by singer-songwriter Matt Kirk, who handles vocals, guitar, mandolin, and harmonica. He's backed by Jimmy Hartman on bass, Brandon Custer on drums, Matt Cain on organ and piano, and Eric Demmer on saxophone.
They call their sound 'Texicana,' a blend of Americana, country, rock, blues, and folk rooted in the dance halls, backroads, and river towns of the Texas Hill Country and in the tradition of Gruene Hall. That's not just a description of the style, either—the band spent five years playing Gruene Hall monthly before branching out across Texas and beyond. Their self-titled debut album came out in October 2022, recorded at The Zone with Pat Manske.
Kirk has also done some work on his own. In February 2024, he toured with the Gipsy Kings, opening their shows solo acoustic at venues including The Majestic Theater, the Buddy Holly Center, the Paramount Theatre, the Selena Auditorium, and House of Blues in Dallas and Houston. This is a full-band set, though, with the organ, piano, and saxophone filling out the sound.
