Master Pancake vs. The Lost Boys

Master Pancake Theater takes on The Lost Boys at Paramount and Stateside Theatres on Thursday, October 15. It's a riffing show in the vein of Mystery Science Theater 3000, with the troupe roasting the movie in real time. The target is Joel Schumacher's 1987 vampire comedy, set in the fictional beachside community of Santa Carla and starring Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Dianne Wiest, and Kiefer Sutherland.

If you're not familiar with the group, Master Pancake Theater is the resident movie-riffing troupe at the Alamo Drafthouse, led by Jeopardy! champion and Austin comedian John Erler. He's been roasting films at the venue for more than 25 years, first as part of The Sinus Show and later as the troupe's leader. The group has been at it since 2007 and has appeared at SXSW and Fantastic Fest, playing every weekend at an Alamo Drafthouse in Austin and every Wednesday and Thursday on their Twitch channel.

This particular night is part of the Paramount Presents series, so it's a bit of a departure from their usual Alamo Drafthouse residency. The movie they're taking apart is The Lost Boys, a 1980s vampire flick that's as much about teenage angst and leather jackets as it is about the undead. It's exactly the kind of thing that works for this format—familiar enough to recognize, but with plenty of room for the troupe to pick apart.
