Margaret Slovak performs live and signs vinyl copies of her 2007 album For the Moment with her Texas quartet.
Margaret Slovak plays an in-store set at Waterloo Records on Wednesday, August 26, from 5:30 to 6:15 PM. She'll be performing her original compositions on electric guitar, backed by a Texas quartet. The show celebrates the vinyl release of For the Moment, a recording she made with her New York City quartet back in 1989. It came out on CD in 2007, and now it's finally being issued on vinyl.
Slovak is a guitarist, composer, and painter who grew up in Denver, Colorado. She started playing guitar at 11 and began composing at 14, so the music she's playing here comes from a long history of writing. For this performance, she's joined by pianist Terry Bowness, bassist Chris Maresh, and drummer Masumi Jones—three Austin musicians who round out the quartet. After the set, she'll be signing copies of the record.
