Acoustic set and drum circle with Manas Itene benefiting the Earth Drifters Institute.
Manas Itene plays The Driftwood Dome on Sunday, September 27, from 2 PM to 4 PM. It's an acoustic set and a drum circle, with proceeds going to the Earth Drifters Institute.
Itene is a Nigerian-born drummer, singer and songwriter who spent more than two decades as the touring and studio drummer for Michael Franti & Spearhead, the global roots-rock and reggae band. As a solo artist, he blends reggae, pop, Afrobeat and world rhythms into uplifting music, drawing on a history of playing drums since he was eight and performing on stage since he was sixteen. The afternoon is billed as more than a fundraiser: live renditions from his albums give way to an immersive drum circle, and the organizers frame it as a celebration of culture, connection, positivity and the land. They're inviting attendees to bring their own drums, so you can join in rather than just watch.

If you're not a drummer, there's still plenty to listen to. The first half of the afternoon focuses on the songs from his albums, and the drum circle takes over from there. The whole thing is a fundraiser for the Earth Drifters Institute, which is the organization putting it on. The venue is The Driftwood Dome, 108 Royal Way, Austin, TX 78737. Tickets are pay-what-you-want, from $15 to $75, plus a ticket service fee.
