A lunch and learn session with author Sara Hirsh Bordo discussing autoimmunity and the impact of being told to be 'good' on women's health, presented by Chateau Bellevue and hosted by the Austin Woman's Club.
Sara Hirsh Bordo is coming to the Austin Woman's Club on Thursday, August 6, for a lunch and learn presented by Chateau Bellevue. It runs from 11 AM to 1 PM, so it's a midday thing rather than an evening outing.
Bordo is a best-selling author, an award-winning filmmaker, and the founder of Women Rising®, and this session centers on her book Autoimmunity & The Good Girls. She'll be sharing her own wellness journey and talking through a question that hits close to home for a lot of us: why so many girls are trained to self-silence and serve others. She frames the cost of being told to be "good" — putting everyone else first and neglecting your own needs — as something that actually compromises the immune system. It's a conversation about the physical toll of a lifelong habit of playing a certain role.
If you want to get a copy of the book, there's a signing both before and after the luncheon, and books are available through Bookpeople. So you can grab your copy, get it signed, and then sit in on the talk.
