Concert by singer Lucía, blending jazz, Latin and pop music, within the ATX Chamber Music and Jazz festival.
Lucía plays the Moody Amphitheater on Sunday, April 4, as part of the ATX Jazz Fest. Her set blends jazz, Latin music, and pop, and it's one of the main bills of the festival.
The festival is put on by ATX Chamber Music and Jazz, a local nonprofit run by co-artistic directors Geoffrey Herd and Anna Petrova. They've built the event around a specific kind of reach: ten percent of the seating at every concert is donated to children and their chaperones, and their artists perform for free in schools, youth clubs, and retirement homes. The festival bills itself as the most concentrated gathering of jazz talent ever assembled in Texas, bringing together Grammy winners, MacArthur Fellows, and NEA Jazz Masters.
There's a particular rhythm to how the weekend works. It opens with an exclusive 300-seat VIP night at Assembly Hall, a converted East Austin venue, before the main stage at the Moody Amphitheater takes over on Saturday and Sunday. Once the weekend wraps up, the VIP late-night jam sessions head back to Assembly Hall. Lucía's show falls on that Sunday afternoon, so it's one of the festival's closing acts.
