Lorraine-Dietrich play The Far Out Lounge & Stage on Monday, September 7, starting at 7 PM. They're a progressive rock band from Kansas City, formed in 2018 by guitarist and vocalist Peter Grebenyuk. If you're not familiar, they've put out two albums so far: Devotion came out October 29, 2021, with Nathan Reid on bass, and Swim For Shore followed on May 10, 2024, with Logan Fancolly on bass and Alex Brezik and Joseph Cooper on drums.

Grebenyuk describes the band's sound as building from simple progressions into many layers of guitar and keyboard, with lyrics that explore loneliness and infatuation. That's the core of what they do—starting with a straightforward line and stacking textures on top until it fills out. It's progressive rock in the way it grows a song from the ground up, rather than just sticking to a set formula.

Since they've got two records behind them, there's plenty to pull from for a set. Devotion was the debut, and Swim For Shore is the newer one, so the night should draw from both. Between the two, you'll hear the band's approach to those layered arrangements and the themes Grebenyuk keeps coming back to. It's a good chance to hear how the sound has evolved from the first record to the second.
