Live music performance by Austin music icon Kevin McKinney at C-Boy's Heart & Soul.
Kevin McKinney plays C-Boy's Heart & Soul on Tuesday, July 28, at 6:30 PM. If you've lived in Austin for a while, the name is probably familiar. McKinney is one of the city's music icons, and this is a solo date.
He grew up in the Dallas suburbs and later attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, just north of the city. While there, he co-founded Soulhat, one of Austin's most renowned bands. The group signed with Epic/Sony Records and played a role in helping the city earn its reputation as the 'Live Music Capital of the World.' Their song 'Bonecrusher' became a local radio anthem, playing every Friday at exactly 5 PM for the next ten years.
The venue is C-Boy's Heart & Soul, located at 2008 S. Congress. It's billed as the swankiest club in SoCo, opened by Continental Club owner Steve Wertheimer, who dedicated it to C-Boy Parks, the man who ran the now-defunct Rome Inn. It opened on New Year's Eve 2013 and still hosts Dale Watson's Chicken Shit Bingo on the back patio on Sundays.

McKinney takes the stage on his own for this one, so it's a chance to hear him without the full band around him. The show starts at 6:30 PM, and there's no cover—just bring your ID, as it's 21+.
