Kelley Mickwee performs her solo work, including her 2026 single 'Boomtown to Bust', at Beneath the Oaks in Austin.
Kelley Mickwee plays Beneath the Oaks on Wednesday, October 14, at 6 PM. She's performing her Boomtown to Bust show, and if you've been around the Austin scene for a while, you've likely run into her work without even realizing it.
Mickwee is one of those figures who's spent as much time in other bands as she has on her own. For years she was one half of the Memphis duo Jed and Kelley, and later one fourth of the all-woman Americana group The Trishas, alongside Jamie Lin Wilson, Savannah Welch, and Liz Foster. She also spent time as a 'Shiny Soul Sister' providing harmony and backing vocals for Kevin Russell's Shinyribs, the band her presence helped launch back in 2007.
Her own solo output is sparse, which makes this show a bit of a rarity. Boomtown to Bust is a two-song vinyl single and her first original release since 2014's You Used to Live Here, her debut solo record. Between those two, there's a twelve-year gap, so this is the first time she's put out new material of her own in over a decade.

Away from the stage, she's held her own in the city's radio scene, hosting River Girl Radio on Austin's Sun Radio for five and a half years until 2021. She also remains an active partner in the Red River Songwriters Festival in New Mexico. The show is on Wednesday, October 14, at 6 PM at Beneath the Oaks.
