Book signing and conversation with author Karen Olsson for her novel Dear Thorns, moderated by Jill Meyers.
Karen Olsson will be at BookPeople on Tuesday, November 3, starting at 7 PM, to mark the release of her new novel, Dear Thorns. It's a conversation rather than a reading: Olsson will be joined by Jill Meyers, the editorial director of A Strange Object, who'll moderate the talk.
Dear Thorns follows Lora, a wildlife refuge worker in South Texas who gets involved with a much younger intern, Ben, while they're tracking the elusive Texas ocelot. If you're wondering where it fits on the shelf, it's recommended for readers of Dana Spiotta's Wayward and Katie Kitamura's Intimacies.
Olsson is an Austin resident with a background that doesn't exactly scream 'novelist.' She graduated from Harvard with a degree in mathematics, and that side of her comes through in The Weil Conjectures, her work of nonfiction. On the fiction side, she wrote Waterloo, which was a 2006 PEN/Hemingway Award runner-up for First Fiction, and All the Houses. She's also written for The New York Times Magazine, Slate, Bookforum, and Texas Monthly, and spent time as an editor at The Texas Observer.

The event is free and open to the public, held on the second floor of BookPeople at 603 North Lamar Boulevard. Seating is first-come, first-served and not guaranteed, and there won't be a live stream or recording, so if you want a seat, it's worth getting there a bit early. The talk starts at 7 PM.
