Book signing with Julio Torres presenting his illustrated book The Perfect Gift at BookPeople.
Julio Torres is coming to BookPeople on Thursday, November 5, for a ticketed book signing and photo op. He'll be there from 6 PM to 8 PM on the third floor, 603 North Lamar Boulevard, to present The Perfect Gift, a beautifully illustrated picture book about the art of giving. Each ticket includes a copy of the book, which Torres signs and personalizes.
If you're not familiar with him, Torres is a Salvadoran American writer, director, and comedian who spent years as a writer on Saturday Night Live, where he earned four Emmy nominations. He's the creator of the Peabody Award-winning series Los Espookys and HBO's Fantasmas, and he wrote, directed, and starred in the one-man show Color Theories, which debuted as an HBO special. He made his feature directorial debut with A24's Problemista.
The Perfect Gift brings his signature surreal humor to a collection of gift ideas for every person and occasion. It's his second picture book; his first, I Want to Be a Vase, was inspired by his HBO stand-up special My Favorite Shapes. Both sit in that specific, slightly off-kilter space he's carved out across his different projects.
