Jon Blondell is back at The Elephant Room on Monday, August 17, playing the basement stage. He's billing it as Jon Blondell & Friends, and the room's own description puts it as Blondell returning to reclaim his throne on that stage.
If you've been around the Austin scene for a while, you know Blondell. He's one of the city's most versatile jazz musicians, known as both a trombonist and an electric bassist, and he's been a fixture here for decades. His playing pulls from traditional jazz but lets in blues, funk, soul, swing, and New Orleans influences, and his sets are known for their energy, humor, and musical virtuosity. He's also worked well outside the jazz world, having played with artists as different as Willie Nelson and Sublime.
The Elephant Room's basement stage is the venue's regular home for jazz, and it's a spot Blondell knows well.
