JJ and the Mystics headline Flamingo Cantina on Saturday, September 5, with Darius Jackson w/ Bal'Head and the High Top Fades on the bill. It's a night of live reggae in Austin, featuring two acts on one stage.
JJ and the Mystics is the project of New Mexico-born, Austin based singer-songwriter and guitarist JJ Raschel. Their sound moves through a powerful reggae rock set with bluesy, soul, funk and world influences infused. Since 2019, the band has played hundreds of shows across New Mexico and Texas, and since 21', JJ makes Austin his home. Beyond the music, he's an actor, an empowerment coach and facilitator, and a storyteller.
Raschel describes the work in terms of the human spirit: "This music is about the human spirit and our innate ability to rise from the ashes and overcome." That's the through-line for the set, the reggae focus of the night pulls from legendary influences and diverse inspiration.
