Jelly Ellington plays the Congress Ave Bridge on Saturday, September 5, as part of Bat Fest 2026. It's a blues-rock set, and Ellington is the only name on the bill.
Ellington is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who's been playing since he was seven. He started on classical guitar and stuck with it until he was 14, when he discovered Led Zeppelin and switched to electric. He moved to Austin in 2011 with the rock band Treetop Sailors and spent several years working as a sideman for other local acts before going solo in 2016. He's been a Texas resident for nine years now, though he's originally from Asheville, North Carolina.
His work has caught some local attention over the years. The Austin Chronicle voted him one of the Top 10 "Best Guitarists" at the Austin Music Awards in both 2018 and 2019, and he made the publication's "Best of Austin" list in 2020. He's released the album Not All Who Wander Are Lost and the Carolina EP, and he recorded his first live EP at Antone's, one of the city's oldest and most well-known blues clubs.
