Jazz Legacy: Celebrating the Next Generation of Jazz

Jazz Legacy: Celebrating the Next Generation of Jazz comes to King-Seabrook Chapel on Saturday, August 29, from 3 PM to 5 PM. It's a concert featuring nine emerging jazz artists, presented by the Women in Jazz Association, Inc. in partnership with the Huston-Tillotson University Jazz Studies Department.

The lineup brings together Joshua Lister, Makale Edwards, Jordon Clark, Dorian Verner, De'Juana Shaw, Kylie P., Isaac S. Zhang, Judah Guerra, and LaDemi Davies. Pamela Hart, founder and executive director of the Women in Jazz Association and a jazz vocalist herself, hosts the afternoon alongside Dr. Jeremy George, who directs the jazz studies department at Huston-Tillotson.

This is part of the 'Young Jazz Legacy' series, which the organizers describe as a way to honor jazz tradition while exploring where the music is headed next. The whole thing is framed as more than just a concert: a celebration of the future of a uniquely American art form that emphasizes mentorship, education, and live performance as the ways to keep jazz alive. That focus on the next generation is right there in the name.

The chapel is on the Huston-Tillotson campus at 900 Chicon Street in East Austin. Tickets are $25, and students with a valid student ID get in free. It runs from 3 PM to 5 PM on Saturday, August 29.
