Jackie Venson plays C-Boy's Heart & Soul on Saturday, August 15, with Tomar and the FCs joining her on the bill. Venson is a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who has released five studio albums, and she works across blues, soul, rock, and pop. She describes herself as carrying the passion of Black music in Austin while pushing it forward.
Tomar Williams got his start singing lead on the Chitlin Circuit with his family band in the late 1980s. He spent decades as a sideman on the Austin scene and worked in Hip-Hop production before returning to the frontman role in 2015. He met the local instrumental band The FCs through a mutual friend, Nikolas Bouklas, and together they self-recorded their first EP, Day by Day, which The Austin American-Statesman called a top release. Their second full-length, Rise Above, came out in February 2020 on Splice Records, and The Austin Chronicle noted that Williams, then in his fourth decade of performance, finally hit his stride north of 50. The band is known as one of Austin's best live acts and a regular at clubs like The Continental Club, Antone's, and The White Horse.
