Interstellar returns to the Bullock IMAX Theater on Monday, July 20, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. Christopher Nolan's 2014 sci-fi epic runs 170 minutes, and this is a special IMAX screening, so it's the full experience rather than a standard theater run. The story follows Cooper, an ex-pilot turned farmer played by Matthew McConaughey, who leaves a foundering Earth to lead an expedition beyond the galaxy. He's joined by a cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, Michael Caine, John Lithgow, and Timothée Chalamet.
The screening takes place at the Bullock Museum IMAX Theatre, which is Austin's only IMAX facility. It's a 400-seat, fully accessible theater housed within The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, and it has its own separate entrance, so it can run independently of the museum. The lobby has a carpet pattern incorporating native Texas flora, and the theater itself handles both IMAX and movie-quality 35mm projection. If you've seen the movie on a smaller screen, the IMAX format is how it was meant to be seen—the scale of the visuals is a big part of why it works.
