Concert by Hot Club of Cowtown, an Austin band blending Western swing and hot jazz, at the historic Continental Club.
Hot Club of Cowtown play the Continental Club on Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 PM. It's a hometown show for the Austin band, whose sound sits right at the intersection of Western swing and hot jazz.
They've spent years pulling from both sides of the Atlantic: the Texas swing of Bob Wills on one end and the European gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli on the other. That mix comes through in the three-part harmonies they're known for, and it's a good way to hear how two very different traditions can end up in the same room.
Their most recent record, LIMELIGHT, came out June 17, 2025. It's an eleven-song collection that pulls from a few different places: eclectic standards, cowboy tunes, hot jazz, a Roma folk song, and a waltz for Lupa. The Onion called it a "refreshingly sweet-natured, accomplished, old-school treat."

Fronted by Elana James and Whit Smith, the group works across gypsy jazz, hot jazz, Western swing, and roots & blues. You'll hear that range in the set, with the new material sitting alongside the older stuff they've built their reputation on. The show is at the Continental Club, 1315 S Congress Ave, starting at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, October 7, and admission is free.
